As you know, in August, the Basic Income Earth Congress is coming to Canada. This event, hosted at Toronto Metropolitan University, is an opportunity to engage with leading scholars and advocates in the global basic income movement. For more information on the BIEN Congress, visit bien2026.net.
Canada Futures Summit Pre-Congress Event
To capitalize on this opportunity to gather, we’re bringing together basic income proponents and allies from across Canada to explore and advance our shared strategies for the future of basic income in this country — and we’d love for you to be part of it.
This gathering is for the people building this movement: organizations whose core mandate is basic income; independent academics, activists, and policy thinkers working on basic income and related issues; and those from adjacent fields — food security, housing, labour, taxation, the environment — who see basic income as vital to their own work.
Together, we aim to:
- Build genuine co-ownership of the future we’re working toward
- Create new opportunities for collaboration and break down the barriers between us
- Deepen our shared understanding of what’s happening across the movement
- Strengthen cooperation by better understanding each other’s governance structures, relationships, and roles
How to participate
There are 2 ways to register for the August 19 Canada Day:
First, if you have already registered for the full BIEN Congress from August 20 – 22, then you are automatically registered for the pre-Congress Canada Futures Summit. Confirmation of your participation in Canada Day will be sought at a later date, and there is no need for you to act now.
Second, if you only want to, or are only able to participate in the August 19th Canada Day event, you can register separately on the Congress Registration Page by selecting the Canada Day Only option.
If you have any questions, you can reach out to Ben Earle at biencongress2026@gmail.com
